The Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC)

The Mindfulness Based Living Course, or MBLC, is an in depth weekly mindfulness course for adults consisting of eight classes, which are typically around two hours long, preceded by a free introductory class before the eight week course begins and concluded by a follow up class after the eight week course ends. The course is taught in small groups in Woodford, Cheshire or online by zoom, and is a perfect introduction to mindfulness for people from all backgrounds.

The cost of the course is £225 if run face to face, or £200 when run online via zoom. This includes access to a free app with recordings of all the main mindfulness practices during and after the course, a detailed course manual (delivered electronically) and a certificate of completion.

My next MBLC course will run IN PERSON from my dedicated meditation studio at my home in Woodford, SK7, starting Wednesday 22nd January 2025 from 7-9pm and running until Wednesday 19th March. Please contact me for more details. A short, 3 minute video introducing the course can be found here.

I also offer MBLC courses for businesses; if you have at least 5 employees who would be interested in taking the course, please contact me to discuss how this could best work for you. It is possible to adapt the course (e.g. to hourly sessions, or to longer morning or afternoon sessions, rather than the usual 2 hour sessions) and to design a programme based on the MBLC course that best suits the needs of your company. Corporate courses are offered at £395 per participant.

The Compassion Based Living Course (CBLC)

The Compassion Based Living Course (CBLC) is an eight-week "level 2" course consisting of eight 2 hour classes, which is open to anyone who has already studied an 8 week mindfulness course such as MBLC, MBSR, MBCT or Breathworks course. It draws on insights and practices from neuroscience, evolutionary psychology and Mahayana Buddhism.

The course starts with building self-compassion into basic mindfulness practice, and cultivates positive emotions as a way of building up an inner resource, from which we can approach the self-critic: that persistent inner voice that always finds fault in what we do. What it would be like to cultivate an inner voice that is kind and supportive, and to live life from this place, rather than from a place of destructive self-criticism? We then move from self-compassion towards compassion for others, exploring practices which help us find balance and perspective beyond our habitual preferences.

Pricing for the CBLC course is as per the MBLC (see above), and includes a free app with audio recordings of all the core practices, a detailed course manual, and course certificate, in addition to the 8 sessions. Please let me know if you are interested in joining us for the next course.

ZENWAYS Practical Zen for Health and Wellbeing, and Practical Zen for Grounding and Insight Courses

If you want to know how 30 minutes a day of zen-based meditation can change your life, this is the course for you! The course is based on the body-mind insights of Zen Master Julian Daizan Skinner, the first English man to become a roshi or zen master in the rigorous rinzai tradition of zen. Whether you are a complete beginner to meditation or someone that has studied mindfulness but wants to embed more deeply the zen traditions of meditation in your life, this course shows you how to reduce stress and emotional pain, improve your focus and concentration, and find a gateway to a more enlightened way of being. I am also offering the Practical Zen for Insight and Grounding course, for those who would like to explore the more spiritual, traditional  applications of zen teachings to every day life.

The courses consist of 8 one and a half hour sessions, and cost £200 if run face to face, or £175 when run online via zoom. This includes access to online recordings of all the main meditation practices during and after the course, a course manual (delivered electronically) and a certificate of completion.

Please contact me to reserve your place on the next Zenways course (dates to be confirmed).

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer (MBLC-cancer)

I have also trained to teach the 8 week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer course (MBCT-cancer) with Trish Bartley, author of "Mindfulness: A Kindly Approach to Being with Cancer" (2016) and one of the founding members of the core mindfulness teacher training team at the Centre for Mindfulness, Research and Practice (CMRP) at Bangor University.

The 8 week MBCT for cancer course has been specifically developed over a number of years for people diagnosed with cancer, typically those who have finished active treatment and are beginning to move back into daily life whilst learning to cope with the challenge of a life-threatening illness.

Whilst I am not currently running an MBCT for cancer course, if you are interested in registering for a future course or attending a taster session or 1:1 sessions specifically for people with cancer, please let me know.

Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) Courses

I am trained to teach three seprate MiSP courses: ".breathe", ".be" and ".be2". These courses are 4, 10 and 4 weeks long, respectively, and each session can be adapted to between 40-60minutes in length.

If you work in a school, youth group, or other organisation for children or young people between the ages of 9-18 years old, please get in touch for more information on which course is more appropriate and how to introduce tools and techniques to help your young people to  become calmer, more resilient, more self-aware, and more able to cope with life's ups and downs.

The Mindfulness Based Living Course for Young Adults (MBLC-YA)

This 10 week course has been developed as an adaptation of the adult MBLC course by the Mindfulness Association, and can be offered within or outside of a school or organisational setting. Each session is 45-60 minutes long. It differs from the MiSP courses in that it explicitly builds in compassion-based practices from the start, in addition to the core mindfulness exercises, which can have a dramatic effect on young lives. If you know of a young person who might benefit, please get in touch for details of when the next course is running.

10 week Yoga for Health Course (Yoga4Health)

I have undergone specialised, advanced yoga teacher training with Yoga In Healthcare Alliance (YIHA) to teach the 10 week "Yoga4Health" course. The course is specially designed for those at risk of chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, mild-moderate anxiety/depression, and those suffering from stress or social isolation. It is the ONLY yoga course that has been designed, piloted and evaluated within the NHS, and is accredited by the Personalised Care Institute – the accrediting body set up by the Royal College of GPs and NHS Improvement for training courses in the areas of social prescribing and social care, within the framework of universal personalised care.

If you are an NHS prescriber, social prescriber, or link worker or work in a local charity that supports social prescribing, please get in touch for more details of how to refer patients or clients. Alternatively if you think the course can benefit you, you can self-refer - please contact me for details of the next course.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of any of these courses, and whether they would be suitable for you, please contact me using the details in the ‘Contact’ page above.
